Speed skating has a long tradition on the Ritten. Speed skating competitions were held at Lake Wolfsgruben after World War I. Due to the lively interest in winter sports, the ice rink was completed in 1971/72. In the 1960s, as an offshoot of the Polisportiva Fiamme Collalbo, the speed skating club was founded in 1985. Since then, many motivated volunteers and trainers have continuously tried to make this beautiful sport possible on Ritten. The structures have been constantly renewed and modernized so that the Ritten ice rink is currently one of the most beautiful and fastest open-air rinks. The best conditions for the group of Rittner speed skaters to learn and successfully practice their passion. This is also confirmed by the fact that four athletes from Ritten have currently been included in the national teams - more than ever before in our club’s history: Maybritt Vigl and Romedius Thurner for the seniors, Laura Rathiens and Carmen Thurner for the juniors.The two ex-athletes Bettina Rabanser and Nicola Mayr are currently training the young speed skaters in Rittner.Ritten’s flagship athlete Nicola Mayr herself took part in World Cups and Olympic Games and is currently the assistant coach of the junior national squad.The entire speed skating club is involved in the organization of the Junior World Cup and is looking forward to welcoming young skaters from all over the world to the Ritten Arena.
